 The
second Pipeline Technology leading trade fair and conference was again being
held as part of Hannover Messe - the most important technology event
world-wide. Almost 250 delegates attended the conference in order to get latest
information on current trends and future technologies. In comparison to the
first conference in 2006 the event doubled in size.
Former
German chancellor Gerhard Schröder emphasised the importance of Russia
as reliable partner for the future security of energy supply in Europe.
In his function as chair of the shareholders' committee of Nord Stream he
announced together with the other present members of the senior management that
open questions on e.g. World War II ammunition on the sea bed will be clarified
this summer.
 A
large share of today's fossil fuels for the European market is coming from Asia
and Africa. In this
context Turkey
is an important transit corridor linking the continents. This was also pointed
out in the welcome speech of H.E. Ali Coskun, the Turkish Minister for Industry
and Trade. During the following discussions with top representatives from Saudi
Aramco, PetroChina, Petronas and other organisations the course was set for a
deeper co-operation with interested technology providers from Europe.
Especially the discussion on the black powder phenomenon in gas pipelines was
very intense.
A
particular highlight of the conference was the get-together in the Pipeline
Technology exhibition hall on the evening of the first conference day. This
pooling of exhibitors and conference delegates was welcomed by all parties and it
was intensively used to establish more business relations.
The
second conference day was dedicated to new technologies in operation. It was
split into eight sessions dealing with integrity, acceleration of planning and
construction, material questions and environmental sustainability.
The
upcoming Pipeline Technology Conference 2008 is already in preparation. It will
be held from April 21 to
23, 2008.
