EITEP Activities in Southeast Asia / China

With up to 12 - 14 per cent of growth rates, the environmental markets of Southeast Asia and China are among the most booming economic zones world wide

Particularly in China, the EITEP strategy already shows success, because EITEP follows specific strategy for market setting for German companies since 1989.

Altogether, the frame of support for China is presently based on seven elements:

5) Key Projects

Here, measures are meant which shall come in useful for the entire gas and water management.

To this aim, EITEP supports several training measures, for example organisation of delegation tours of Chinese executives for the establishment of contacts with German supply and waste management companies as well as the finding of trainee places for Chinese junior members of staff in waste management companies of the German water management. In an additional project - which we have applied for - the efficiency of German technology on the subject of "pipeline network management" shall be presented in a joint project of four German companies

Other examples of recent years are:

• Training of multipliers from 21 Chinese provinces on the subject of "Water Supply in Rural Areas"
• Training of 55 Chinese scholars in Germany in the fields of water supply, waste water disposal, energy supply
• Business contact trip with 22 companies of the German water management
• Seminar with managers and chief engineers of the 80 largest Chinese water supply companies
• Group stand of German water supply companies during the "China Infrastructure 1997" fair in Beijing.
• co-operation agreement between the China Water Supply Association" CWSA and EITEP/DELIWA
• Foundation of a "Chinese-German Association for Water Supply, Waste Water Disposal and Environmental Protection"
• Visit of eight executives of the biggest Chinese water supply companies to Germany
• Establishment of an environmental certification and training centre within the frame of the development co-operation in China
• Participation in the CWSA-fair in Kunming with 16 German companies
• Construction and operation of a water works (Preparation and accompanying of a BOT)
• 2 restoration co-operations (JV)
• Production of armatures (JV)
• Specific operator model (Twinning/Contracting)
• Analyses of weak points in the supply systems
• Service for visitors
• Presentation of German companies in China

6) Liaison Mission in Beijing with a local partner

Along with the Chinese partner company Orient Tonghua Technology Co., Ltd., EITEP is able to offer qualified assistance for establishing contacts between Chinese and German companies, associations and ministries.

In addition, the performance of the above mentioned EITEP key projects is coordinated through this office.

At present a joint venture between a German pipe rehabilitator and a big Chinese water provider (8 Mio. inhabitants) is established.

The frame of support is extended continually. Apart from carrying out contact forums, the preparation of a co-operation with the CAS China Association for Standardisation is at the forefront. The office as that provides an opportunity to deposit products or to carry out presentations. Furthermore, the office functions as a trade mission for several small and medium-sized companies.

7) German-Chinese Association

This association was founded with the aid of EITEP/DVGW by Chinese engineers who were trained in Germany. All in all, 55 Chinese state scholars of engineering who were intensively trained for one year in Germany over the last couple of years, have established the association to support the co-operation between the two countries and to exchange their experiences.

The former scholars are now working in top positions of the Chinese politics and economy, and can provide for valuable support due to their experiences in Germany. The association intends to change to a professional association.
